Hallmarking & Purity
Every piece carries a BIS hallmark and a unique HUID. Here is what those marks mean, and how to check them yourself.

01What a hallmark is
A hallmark is an official mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards certifying how pure the gold in a piece actually is. It is applied at a BIS-licensed assaying centre, not by the jeweller.
Every gold piece Nakshi sells is hallmarked. No exceptions.
02What is stamped on your piece
- The BIS logo — the mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards.
- The purity grade — 22K916, 18K750 or 14K585.
- The HUID — a unique six-character alphanumeric code identifying your specific piece.
03Understanding purity
- 24K is 99.9% pure gold — too soft to hold a setting, so it is not used for jewellery.
- 22K (916) is 91.6% gold — the standard for traditional Indian jewellery.
- 18K (750) is 75% gold — harder, and better suited to diamond and stone settings.
- 14K (585) is 58.5% gold — the most durable, used for everyday wear.
04Verifying it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it. Enter the HUID stamped on your piece into the BIS Care app, free on Android and iOS, and it will show you the registered purity and the jeweller it was issued to.
The HUID, net weight and purity are also printed on your Nakshi invoice. Keep that invoice — it is required for exchange, buyback and insurance.
05How we price gold
Your invoice separates the gold value, making charges, stone value and GST so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Gold value is calculated on the net gold weight — the weight of the metal alone, excluding stones and beads — at the day's rate.
06Exchange and buyback
Hallmarked Nakshi jewellery can be exchanged or sold back to us at the prevailing gold rate for its purity, against your original invoice. Contact us on +91 83294 88814 for the current terms.
